How Tales of the Black Freighter scares
It starts like a grim survival adventure, a lone man fighting to get home after a shipwreck, then slowly twists into something much darker and sadder as his mind and morals start to crack. There are no jump scares here, just a steady, sinking dread that builds the longer he's stranded and desperate. The horror comes less from the pirates themselves and more from watching a decent man's choices curdle into something monstrous, with a bitter, ironic gut-punch waiting at the end. It's a short, dense piece, more haunting and heavy than fun, told through animation but not soft because of it.
