There's a dreamy, off-kilter feeling to this one, like you're trapped inside the killer's own warped head rather than watching from outside. Mario Bava leans hard into moody colors, strange camera angles, and a slow unraveling of one man's sanity rather than piling on shocks or gore. The scares creep in through unease and creepy visuals more than jolts, and a ghostly presence adds a strange, otherworldly chill to what starts as a very human, twisted story.
