How The Sentinel scares
It opens like a slow character study, following a woman settling into a new apartment and getting to know her strange neighbors, before quietly tilting into something much darker. The dread builds gradually through odd looks, uneasy silences, and a growing sense that something is deeply wrong with the building itself, rather than through quick scares. By the end it turns into something much stranger and more grotesque than the calm first half suggests, leaving a heavy, uneasy feeling rather than a fun scare. It's best for people who like old-school occult horror that takes its time and pays off with something startling and hard to forget.
