Being stuck on a shrinking raft in open water with nowhere to swim to gives this a constant, trapped feeling of dread that never really lets up. The pace mixes long stretches of exhausted, desperate waiting with sudden bursts of violence when the shark strikes, so you're never fully able to relax. It leans hard into physical danger and the panic of being hunted rather than into slow psychological unease, and the real-world war setting adds a grim, tragic edge on top of the creature-feature scares.
