How scary is The Witch in the Window?
It spends most of its short runtime moving slowly and quietly, letting small, strange details pile up in the background while a father and son go about ordinary house repairs. There's almost no jumping out at you here; instead the dread creeps in sideways, through odd camera angles and things glimpsed just out of focus. The scares are more sad and unsettling than shocking, tied closely to the relationship between the two leads, which gives the fear an emotional weight you don't always get in ghost stories. It's a good pick if you want something quiet and a little heartbreaking rather than loud or gory.
On The Horror Database's 0–5 scare profile, The Witch in the Window rates psychological 5/5, visceral 1/5, gore 0/5, lingering effect 4/5, and overall intensity 2/5.
