It is 1595. Brutal wars have just ended in an uneasy peace between Protestant Sweden and Orthodox Russia. We focus on the spiritual defeats of two conquered Finnish brothers, one a hardened near-psychopathic war hero, the other a gentle scientist in an age with no use for such men. They find themselves in the swampy interior, demarcating the new border with a unit of sadistic Russians.

How Sauna scares
Watching this feels like sinking slowly into cold, wet ground you can't climb back out of. The pace is patient and heavy, built on guilt and dread rather than scares that jump out at you, and the horror grows out of what these soldiers did in the war rather than any clear monster. It stays moody and strange right to the end, never quite telling you if what's happening is real or something closer to punishment from within. This is for people who like slow, sad, unsettling horror that sits with you rather than a movie built for quick thrills.
