How Manhunter scares
Manhunter moves at a cool, deliberate pace, more like a detective drama than a typical horror movie, letting tension build through investigation rather than shocks. The fear here is quiet and mental: it comes from getting inside a killer's head and feeling how thin the line is between hunter and hunted. There's little blood or violence shown directly, and almost no jump scares, but the mood stays tense and a little sick to your stomach throughout. It's a good pick if you like slow, smart thrillers about obsession and profiling more than fright-night scares.
On The Horror Database's 0–5 scare profile, Manhunter rates psychological 4/5, visceral 2/5, gore 2/5, lingering effect 3/5, and overall intensity 3/5.

How scary is Manhunter?
On The Horror Database's 0–5 intensity scale, Manhunter rates 3/5 — solidly scary, building its fear through slow-burn dread rather than shocks. The fear is mostly in your head — it unsettles far more than it assaults. Expect it to be moderately gory and scary but not punishing. Some of it will follow you to bed, but it lets go within a day or so.
