The story splits into two very different halves: a tense, paranoid witch-hunt drama set in the past that slowly closes in on its characters, followed by a bloodier, faster slasher-style push back in the present day as things come to a head. Early on the fear comes from suspicion, fear of neighbors, and a sense of being trapped in a small, superstitious community, while the back half leans hard into chases and brutal kills.
