How The Host scares
It kicks off fast with a chaotic, in-broad-daylight monster attack, then settles into a chase-and-search structure that mixes real dread with sudden bursts of dark humor. The scares come more from panic and physical danger than from jump scares or creepy atmosphere. There's real sadness and social anger under the monster-movie surface, so it hits harder emotionally than a typical creature flick, but it never turns into pure misery.
