How scary is Forbidden World?
Watching this feels like sitting through a cheap, sleazy creature feature that doesn't take itself too seriously despite the nasty violence on screen. The pacing is choppy, with stretches of low-budget lab drama and nudity padding things out before the monster shows up to tear through the cast in bursts of messy gore. It's the kind of movie made to shock and gross you out rather than get under your skin, more schlocky fun than genuinely upsetting. Fans of trashy 80s sci-fi horror and practical-effect monster gore will get more out of it than anyone looking for real dread.
On The Horror Database's 0–5 scare profile, Forbidden World rates psychological 1/5, visceral 4/5, gore 4/5, lingering effect 1/5, and overall intensity 3/5.
