How scary is Vacancy?

The story opens slow, with a bickering couple just trying to get through one bad night on a road trip, then flips hard once they find the tapes and the rest of the movie is a tight, nonstop scramble to survive. Most of the fear comes from feeling trapped and watched, with real, physical danger driving things rather than sudden jolts. It stays grounded the whole way through, no ghosts or monsters, just people in a very bad situation with nowhere to run. It's tense and stressful more than gross, good for viewers who like a lean, pressure-cooker thriller.

On The Horror Database's 0–5 scare profile, Vacancy rates psychological 3/5, visceral 4/5, gore 2/5, lingering effect 3/5, and overall intensity 4/5.
