You spend most of this movie with your stomach tight, waiting to see how each trap will play out, more than getting jumped at from the dark. The tension comes from watching people trapped in brutal, ticking-clock devices with awful choices, and the camera doesn't look away from the blood and damage. It leans hard into physical suffering and gore rather than mind-bending dread, so it hits your gut more than your head.
