How Scanners scares
Watching it feels cold and clinical at first, like a paranoid thriller, and then it suddenly breaks into shocking, wet body horror that catches you off guard. The pacing is slow and talky for long stretches, built around conspiracy and control rather than constant threat, then it lets loose with a few unforgettable, stomach-turning bursts of violence. The fear here isn't jump scares, it's the idea of your own mind and body being taken over by someone else. Good for people who like weird, brainy 80s horror with a strong stomach for a couple of gross-out moments rather than nonstop dread.
