Terms of Use

THDB (The Horror Database) helps you find horror by how it scares. It is free, non-commercial, and run from Belgium as a community project — no ads, no subscriptions, no catch. In return, it comes as-is: features can change, and we cannot promise the site will always be up or the data always right.

You do not need an account to browse. You need one to rate, review, and contribute. Keep your sign-in details to yourself — what happens on your account is on you. One account per person: community consensus decides which scare profiles get promoted, and that only works when one voice is one person.

Reviews, ratings, lists, corrections — everything you contribute stays yours. By posting it you give THDB a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to store, display, format, and excerpt it as part of running the site (for example, showing your review on a movie page or a list preview in search results). Your contributions are public and attributed to your username — see the privacy policy for exactly what is and is not public.

Delete your content, or your account, whenever you want — the license ends with it. Community effects that were already applied (say, an axis value your correction helped settle) persist without attribution.

Short list, seriously meant:

• Spoilers go behind the spoiler toggle. The whole site is built on spoiler-safety — do not be the person who breaks it in a review.
• Review the movie, not each other. No harassment, hate, or personal attacks. No illegal content.
• Do not game the consensus. No duplicate accounts, no coordinated voting on profiles or corrections. The trust ladder is the product.
• No spam, no scraping. No promotional posting, bulk harvesting, or automated abuse — rate limits are enforced.

Every review has a report button. Content reported by multiple members is hidden automatically pending review, and moderators can remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. We aim to be light-handed — this is a community project, not a courtroom. If we got something wrong, or you need to flag something that has no report button, email [email protected] and a human will look at it.

Scare profiles and intensity curves are written by an AI and labeled unconfirmed until enough of the community reviews them. They are editorial estimates of vibe and intensity — they can be wrong, and they are not safety guidance. Gore and intensity readings are no substitute for content or trigger warnings (photosensitivity, phobias, trauma) — check a dedicated resource like doesthedogdie.com if you need certainty. Profiles are designed to be spoiler-free, but we cannot guarantee perfection.

Movie information comes from TMDB — this product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Streaming availability is provided by JustWatch and can lag behind reality; always check the streaming service itself. Trailers play via YouTube, and links out to other sites are governed by those sites' own terms.

Movie titles, posters, and artwork belong to their rights holders. The THDB name, design, and the scare-profile system belong to the project. Your contributions belong to you (see section 03). If you believe content on THDB infringes your rights, email [email protected] with the details and we will take it down or respond promptly.

THDB is provided as-is and as-available, free of charge. To the maximum extent the law allows, we disclaim warranties and are not liable for damages arising from using the site — including decisions made on the basis of scare profiles, ratings, or streaming data. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.

You can stop using THDB anytime, and delete your account by emailing [email protected]. We can suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and — since this is a free project — we may change or discontinue features, or the site itself, if it ever comes to that. Sections that by their nature should survive (content license while content is live, liability limits) survive.

These terms are governed by Belgian law; mandatory consumer protections of the country you live in are not affected. If the terms change, the date at the top changes with it and meaningful changes get a notice on the site — continuing to use THDB after that means you accept the new version.
